GEN SEN JYUKU

Honoured to be named GEN SEN JYUKU

Our dojo was given the name Gen Sen Jyuku by the esteemed master T.K. Chiba Sensei on his visit in 2008 at the 20th anniversary of the dojo. The meaning literally translated is "essence of a spring" inspired by the position the club has of being the launching point of many aikidoka's careers.

The more that I thought about it, the more natural it became: the treasures of the future are contained in the young, so where better for me to invest my time?

The above words is the reason Chris Mooney Sensei gave for justifying the long commute and difficult hours he takes to teach at our humble club.

The Executives

President - Olli Ruotsalainen

My job is to manage the exec, in order to keep the club running as smoothly as possible. I'm also the main exec connection to Mooney Sensei and our parent dojo Ei Mei Kan. Being the most senior of the exec, I also teach the occasional class.

Vice President - Oscar Rovick Arrojo

My role as VP is to support the president in his role, with regards to substituting him when he is not present, whilst also being in charge of the weapons classes every other Monday evening. If anyone has any questions about the club, especially regarding the weapons classes, feel free to come to me for answers.

Treasurer - Kaitlin Sabnis Thomas

I’m in my second year studying maths, and as the treasurer of Gen Sen Jyuku, I am responsible for anything to do with money and finance. If you have any questions, I’m always happy to help, whether it’s to do with money, the club or just Aikido in general.

Secretary - María Laín Hernández Ballesteros

Discovering aikido during my first year at university was a chance for which I am still grateful. Coming from ballet, I found that the centre of the body is crucial for both arts. I am willing to learn more and improve, which I think is quite easy given the extraordinary sensei and the dojo's atmosphere we have. I hope my role in the Exec will helps things to continue this way.

Social Secretary - Jane Jiang

I'm a second year MORSE student and as social sec, I organise social events and generally ensure aikido is fun. I started aikido when I came to Warwick University with practically no previous martial arts experience but I found aikido to be challenging but enjoyable and highly rewarding so don't be afraid to give it a try!
